Page 1:
This indenture made this the 30th day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty seven between Gideon Dickens of the County of Chatham and the State of North Carolina of the one part and Joseph Avent of the County and State aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said Gideon Dickens for and in consideration of the sum of Thirty two dollars and fifty cents to him in hand paid by the said Joseph Avent the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged and himself therewith fully satisfied hath given, granted, bargained, sold and conveyed and by these presents doth fully clearly and absolutely give, grant, bargain, sell and convey to him the said Joseph Avent his heirs and assigns forever a certain lot or parcel of land being in the county aforesaid on the waters of Henry’s branch waters of Cape Fear River Beginning at a small pine Avent’s own corner in Yarborough’s line and running west with Avent’s own line fifty one poles to a stake near a drain thence south twenty five and a half poles to Red Oak thence east fifty one poles to a stake in Yarborough’s line then north with said line twenty five and a half poles to the first station containing eight and one-eighth acres be the same more or less To Have and To Hold the said land and premises with all the appurtances thereunto belonging as in any wise appertaining to the said bargained land and premises unto him the said Joseph Avent

his heirs and assigns forever free and clear of all encumbrances whatsoever and the said Gideon Dickens doth for himself his heirs executors and administrators warrant and forever defend the right and title of the aforesaid land and premises unto him the said Joseph Avent his and assigns free and clear from all encumbrances and from the lawful claim or claims of any person or persons whatsoever-

This indenture made this twentieth day of Nov in the year of our Lord one Thousand Eight Hundred and Thirty five Between John Judd of Chatham County and North Carolina of the one part and Gideon Dickens of the County and State aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the said John Judd for and in consideration of the sum of Fifty Dollars to him in hand paid by the said Gideon Dickens before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt and payment whereof is hereby acknowledged hath bargained sold conveyed and delivered and by these presents do bargain sell convey and confirm unto the said Gideon Dickens one certain piece or parcel of land lying and being in Chatham County on both sides of the road from Avents ferry joining the lines of Thomas Springfield and others and bounded as follows (to wit) beginning at a small Black Jack near Zachariah Robards shop and thence runs south seventeen chains and fifty five links to a post oak amongst pointers thence west twenty eight chains and fifty links to a lightwood stake four Black Jack pointers thence north seventeen chains and fifty five links to a lightwood stake in Thomas Springfields line one pine and three Black Jack pointers thence with Springfields line east to the beginning
To have and to hold the aforesaid land and premise to the said Gideon Dickens together with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging with all hereditaments thereunto belonging and the said John Judd

for himself his heirs executors administrators or assigns do by these presents warrant and forever defend the aforesaid land and premises free and clear from his heirs executors administrators and assigns and from the claim or claims of all and every person or persons whatsoever to the said G. Dickens his heirs executors administrators or assigns forever
