It was said that her mother, Mary Frances Yarborough, would not let her out of the house unless she was dressed in the finest fashions of the day.

This Indenture made this twenty fourth day of October in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty one Between John Wommack of the County of Chatham in the State of North Carolina of the one part and Joseph Avent of the County and State aforesaid of the other part
Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of ninety nine and one half dollars to me the aforesaid John Wommack in hand paid the receipt and payment thereof I am therewith fully satisfied and contented Hath given Granted Bargained Sold and Conveyed one certain tract piece or parcel of land situate lying and being in the County of Chatham on the north side of Bussh Creek and bounded as follows
Beginning at a Post Oake saplin Joseph Thomases corner thence as his line east twenty four chains to a stake in said line Arch’s Yarborroughs corner thence on a small branch in a field thence as Yarborroughs line North twenty two chains and seventy six links to a stake Avents own corner thence as his line West twelve chains and seventy five links to a stake where a Red Oak [?stood his leaves?] thence as another of his lines North six chains and eighty links to overtake his own corner thence as another of his lines west eleven chains and sixty four links to a stake his

Decision of the Rush land on Cape Fear between Jos Avent + MT Hawkins Jr

Whereas Elizabeth Rush dec’d late of said county died about the 15th day of April 1841 being possessed of at the time of her death in dower right a tract of land in the south^west^ side of Cape Fear River containing by estimation and survey this day made by Nathaniel Clegg County Surveyor 665 acres and whereas by the death of the said Elizabeth Rush the aforesaid lands became the property of Joseph Avent and Micajah T. Hawkins jr, alias Joseph Hawkins heir at law of Col Joseph Hawkins dec’d in the following manner to wit that is to say Benjamin [obscured]

by his will gave to his son Benjamin Rush jun the said lands and he having died before he arrived at lawfull age his three sisters Ruth, Judith and Elizabeth became the heirs to the said land, and by legal conveyance from time to time the said Joseph Avent is entitled to two-thirds of the same, and Micajah T. Hawkins jun alias Joseph Hawkins is entitled to the other third of said lands should be made, the parties have this day employed the said Nathaniel Clegg to run off and survey said lands with a view to such division, they having first agreed upon the corners and quantities each party should have which was done in the following manner to wit, the dividing line Beginning at a hickory on the bank of said River 98 poles below Hawkins original corner of the Lick Creek tract and returning south 67° West 196 poles to a Locust tree, thence south 52° West 172 poles to a hickory and dogwood on the bank of Little Lick Creek the back line of the said Rushs tract, now that part on the North side of said dividing line including 165 1/2 acres was allotted to and taken by the said M.T. Hawkins jun alias Joseph Hawkins in person and by his guardian Micajah T. Hawkins Sen as his full proportion of said tract of 665 acres of land considered in value equal to one third part of the same –
And that part lying south of said dividing line containing 449 1/2 Acres was allotted to and taken by

This indenture made this the 30th day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty seven between Gideon Dickens of the County of Chatham and the State of North Carolina of the one part and Joseph Avent of the County and State aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said Gideon Dickens for and in consideration of the sum of Thirty two dollars and fifty cents to him in hand paid by the said Joseph Avent the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged and himself therewith fully satisfied hath given, granted, bargained, sold and conveyed and by these presents doth fully clearly and absolutely give, grant, bargain, sell and convey to him the said Joseph Avent his heirs and assigns forever a certain lot or parcel of land being in the county aforesaid on the waters of Henry’s branch waters of Cape Fear River Beginning at a small pine Avent’s own corner in Yarborough’s line and running west with Avent’s own line fifty one poles to a stake near a drain thence south twenty five and a half poles to Red Oak thence east fifty one poles to a stake in Yarborough’s line then north with said line twenty five and a half poles to the first station containing eight and one-eighth acres be the same more or less To Have and To Hold the said land and premises with all the appurtances thereunto belonging as in any wise appertaining to the said bargained land and premises unto him the said Joseph Avent

This Indenture made this 2nd day of ______ in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty one, between Hardy Christian and Ruthy Christian his wife of the County of Chatham and State of North Carolina of the one part, and Thomas Springfield of the County and State aforesaid of the other part – Witnesseth that the said Hardy Christian and Ruthy his wife for and in consideration of the sum of five hundred dollars to them in hand paid by the said Thomas Springfield, the receipt whereof the said Hardy Christian and Ruthy his wife doth hereby acknowledge, hath given, granted, bargained and sold, alliened and confirmed and by these presents doth give, grant, bargain and sell, allien and confirm unto the said Thomas Springfield his heirs and assigns forever, One Third part of all that tract of land, situate, lying and being in the County of Chatham, on the waters of the Cape Fear River, better known and distinguished as the tract of land formerly owned by Benjamin Rush, Senior, Deceased, and from him descended to his son Benjamin Rush who is since deceased and has now descended to his three sisters, Ruthy Christian, Elizabeth Perkins, and Judith Avent, which said tract of land is at present occupied by the wife of the said Benjamin Rush, Senior, Deceased. The above plat represents one hundred and sixty four acres of land on Both sides of the road leading from Avents Ferry in Chatham County to the longstreet in Moore County and bounded as follows (To wit)-
Beginning at a dead pine in a small pond at the intersection of Rossers and Ishmael Robirds lines and runs thence west along Ishmael’s line twenty chains to a Black Jack thence south thirteen chains and sixty links to a Black Jack stump near Ishmael Robird’s stable thence with another of Ishmael’s lines west forty chains to a pine thence with another of said Ishmael’s lines north thirty two chains and ten links to a dead pine in William Rush’s line thence East sixty chains with said Rush’s line to a red oak stump his corner thence South two degrees East eighteen chains and fifty links to the beginning it being bounded all round by other and older lines except the line of forty chains and of thirty two chains and ten links agreeable to the date of the grant […] surveyed this 19th July 1821-
