Always with the elephants, Joy.

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

I’ve been spending a lot of time lately working on Miss Amy’s wedding invitations. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t feel right posting pictures of them (or of the process) before they’re sent out into the public. It feels like there should be an element of surprise when it comes to wedding invitations, like a grand reveal.

So you don’t get to see those.

But what I have done that I can show off is this:

elephant crochet

Yeah, I spent about an hour today crocheting an elephant head. It was my first time trying to crochet any shape besides a circle, so it was kind of interesting. He’s really cute, now I just have to decide what to do with him.

Aaaand, speaking of elephants. I stumbled on The Asian Elephant Art & Conservation Project which, as their mission statment says, “is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving the diminishing number of Asian elephants left on our planet through its work with domesticated elephants.”
From them, I bought a painting that was painted by an elephant. And I love it. The one I got? Here!

If you browse through the paintings done by other elephants, you’ll find some that are obviously a bouquet of flowers, or (even better) a portrait of an elephant. These animals paint better than some people I know.
